About
Timothy Lynch (b. 1987; Pomona, CA) is an artist living and working in Los Angeles.
His figurative paintings fuse portraits and self portraits with references to religion and popular culture. He is most influenced by traditional Hindu paintings and expressionist art movements like The School of London and the Bay Area Figurative Artists.
He was raised in Rialto, CA, skateboarding with his friends and attending Catholic church on Sundays. During Summer trips to Malaysia to visit his mothers family, he spent his time exploring Hindu and Buddhist temples and skating with the locals.
Coming from a mixed cultural and religious background, the stark contrast of the suburban desert and the lush jungles of his mother’s homeland along with the contrasting religious iconography found on the altars of his family’s homes are often reflected in his work.
He received his BA in Fine Art in 2009 from UC Riverside and in 2014 had his first solo show at the now closed Blackstone Gallery in Los Angeles. He has exhibited in several group shows in Los Angeles and in 2024 was part of a group show in Berlin.
